Virtual Extrusion Laboratory™ Material Module

CLICK HERE FOR MATERIALMODULE YOUTUBE VIDEOS

materials01The VEL™ Material module is a powerful tool that allows the user to import the material properties that are important from an extrusion point of view. Using this tool users can enter the following data, and then use it for simulation of screws, adaptors, and dies. :

  • Shear viscosity vs shear rate
  • Elongational viscosity vs elongation rate
  • First normal stress difference
  • Wall slip
  • Thermal melt properties: thermal conductivity, density, heat capacity.
  • Solid properties: thermal conductivity, density, heat capacity, heat of fusion.
  • Pellet properties.

materials02The VEL™ Material module can be used to calculate the flow through the following geometries:

  •  flow in tubes,
  • parallel plates with coex.
  • converging tubes,
  • converging plates
  • parallel annuli with coex
  • converging annuli.
  • metering section
  • Fluted mixing element gap.

materials03The VEL™, Material Module can be used to avoid and solve the following extrusion problems:

  • Degradation
  • High pressure drop
  • Interfacial instabilities in coextrusion
  • Shark skin
  • Appearance of waves on product
  • Low screw output
  • High residence time
